This project, called "Sum of all lengths", consists of the installation of a perimeter of thread which delimits the internal courtyard of the Cloister of Sant Jordi I Sant Domènec (EOI). This thread, which borders the columns has, in meters, the same distance of the perimeter that circumscribe the entire city of Tortosa.
Fifteen kilometers of condensated threads embrace the building and materialize the dimensions of the city, giving shape to that which seems immeasurable.
With this translation procedure, a limit that seems ungraspable is revealed, the exterior of a geographical space is internalized.
The sum of the threads makes up a wall that separates, limits and determines the mobility of the viewer, at the same time inviting them to approach and look through it to the other side of the space. It allows a glimpse of the architecture of the building and the limits of the city between its lattices, which vanish towards a point, in the center of the Cloister.
The threads have enough tension to hold themselves between the columns and surround the internal courtyard, and the necessary width to discover and connect with the spaces of the building.
If the thread has the total measure of the city limit, could we say that the entire city fits in the building, that what was periphery is now center, and that the entire geographic space could converge at one point?
